{outfit} bluh bluh huge witch

i recently acquired a cthulhu-ized squiddles shirt, paying homage to the excellent comic homestuck @ ms paint adventures. since the character in the comic who wears this particular shirt is, in fact, quite literally a teenage witch, it seemed appropriate to try and channel those grimdark vibes when wearing this.

we've got the dilapidated outdoors, the gloomy weather, the bone-chilling wind that never stops. even the environment is on board with this plan!

we've got emo kid glasses, dark lips, and a topknot. i don't usually wear a lot of jewelry, but given the theme, it seemed appropriate to throw on a busload of rings for good measure (though sadly, i have no good pictures of them). the rest of the outfit really just came together on its own - the tights were a late addition, but they happen to look particularly witchy, and go with the boots quite well.

this clutch is almost like a doll's purse - a tiny, pink, intensely girly handbag. which also happens to fit with the theme, albeit in a somewhat roundabout way. i appear to be the nerdiest fashion nerd that ever nerded, at least when it comes to the things i am ridiculously obsessed with.

yeah, i don't know either.

{outfit} baby i ain't got no plan

welp. i'm back.

it's pretty much officially spring, now. there's not much in the way of green, but the sun is coming out on a regular basis and the snow is almost gone. close enough. and hence: pictures. hopefully, i'll have a little more variation here than i used to. this is probably my first time wearing actual print (let alone more than two primary colors!) as a main clothing article in at least a month or two. it's interesting, that as my interest in fashion as a more global, interactive trend waned, my actual creative impulses re: clothes picked up again. maybe i'll actually keep this up, this time.

i have been caring less and less about whether other people see my skin, lately. shorty-shorts, low-cut (front or back) tops that show my bra, short skirts. i used to worry more about it, to be concerned that people would judge me. it's a lot less socially acceptable for a "bigger" girl (which, what the hell? i'm not even that big, but when it comes to the fashion community...) to show skin (and by extension, fat) than it is for skinny girls. which is, in my growing opinion, total bs. i feel comfortable in my body, and i feel comfortable showing it. there's more to aesthetics than skin and bone - just one version of universal beauty is way too limiting for me.

though, on the flip side, i have been really liking the maxi-lengths as well. i found an absolutely lovely long mesh skirt that i want to share sometime soon, and i want to get a few long casual dresses for the summer if i can. i like to run the gamut, is what i'm saying. no judging on either end of the spectrum, just pure awesome.

basically: DEAL WITH IT.

{outfit} i keep my feet on solid ground

no-name jumper. fever sweater. scala hat. marc jacobs boots, vintage.

wow, has it been a while. that's what happens when the school year rolls around: ap classes, dance five days a week, six or seven hours of sleep on average a night... it doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging, and even less for dressing up. any upcoming posts will likely be non-outfit oriented. that's okay; variety is good.
these pictures are actually relatively recent - earlier last week, the first day we had a real, heavy, snowfall. hence the giant boots.

what i'm wearing: gap dolman top. hand-me-down skirt. faryl robin wedges. banana republic necklace. vintage fedora. ring from her tern.

{outfit} you're lucky words don't bleed

rubbish tee. free people dress. boden cardigan. coclico boots. vintage fedora. djamesdesigns necklace.

the color got a bit wonky in the last picture - i'm not sure what that's all about, but i kind of like it. there's some pretty intense layering going on there, mostly because i looked outside at the relentless rain and went "okay, fuck it, i'll do it your way" and just piled it all on. (plus a leather jacket and fingerless gloves when in transit. if i wanted to do it REALLY intense i could have put on my giant over-the-knee socks, but i wasn't feeling that gutsy today.)

{outfit} you tell yourself it's love

j. crew shirt. woolricks sweater. true religion jeans. hobo belt. banana republic necklace. coclico heels.

this is essentially one of the iterations of my "lazy as hell" outfit - giant sweater, colorful top under, some sort of nondescript bottom and a bunch of jewelry. it's not terribly exciting, but it gets the job done.

also, i got a haircut! it's not really obvious in this picture, but it's several inches shorter and much more layered. a+. i might get more chopped off later, but we'll just see how it goes for now....

{outfit} shades of grey

a display of what will henceforth be known as "early morning towel-head".

rubbish t-shirt. alternative apparel tee. free people skirt.

just a quick, kind of boring outfit post. i have nothing terribly interesting to say. illustration post coming up sometime soon.... xoxo

{outfit} {adventuring} i won't waste it

yesterday was h.'s last day in-state with us before she had to go back to school, so she and i + parents & dog all went to the park together (again).

hector was very excited by this prospect.

omg it's a tummy. )=

well somebody is being mocked here.

the parental units.

wearing: little yellow button via anthropologie top, glo jeans, lush cardigan, franco sarto loafers, vintage fedora.

i've been essentially wearing the same outfit non-stop for the past couple of days - an old fedora plus my new lush cardigan. the fedora is pretty special - it's actually shaped a bit more like an outback hat, and belonged to my grandfather on my dad's side. i never knew him but i still get to have a hand-me-down via him (& my dad). it's kinda cool.

hand-me-down dress, lush cardigan, thrifted jacket, hobo belt, bcbg heels, tano bag.

awkward picture, but oh well. outfit from later in the day, after h. had left, when we all went out to dance salsa at the local club....... good times.

{outfit} {adventuring} these rituals of mine

unknown designer top. true religion jeans. franco sarto loafers. lush sweater. houghtonhill necklace. tulle headband. click image for larger version.

glasses + giant flower headband might not have been the best sartorial choice, in retrospect. but in my defense, i was feeling quite lazy and had already removed my contacts.... in any case, this was worn to the local schoolyard/park area in our neighborhood last evening, where i and (most) of the rest of my family + dog played frisbee and toodled around. and in two small tidbits of the journey...

h. showed off her new nose bling...

and deadly mushrooms were underfoot. thanks a lot, rain.

{outfit} earplugs count as an accessory, too

unknown designer tee. alternative apparel tank. true religion jeans. coclico wedges. unknown designer scarf. houghtonhill necklace.

unknown designer tee. true religion jeans. fever sweater. hobo belt. brass plum sunglasses. banana republic necklace.

outfits from both friday and sunday, because i was too lazy to both get a picture on saturday and to upload these on time.... sunday, we went to the air show, hence the earplugs. those blue angels get damn loud

{outfit} you just go ahead and burn the flag

awkward posing ahoy!

j. crew tee. true religion jeans. coclico heels. gifted scarf. djamesdesigns necklace.

took pictures outside today, despite the ever-looming clouds - the light is so much better out there. thus, you get to see me posing (awkwardly) on a fish plank. you don't want to know what that is, really. regardless, i enjoy topping a kind of monochromatic outfit with something really bright and obnoxious. it's cool, because the greys, blacks, and browns are all perfectly in tune with the gloomy weather and then it's suddenly countered by the bright reds and golds of the head-area stuff. it's a nice dichotomy, to my eye.

i'll do detail pictures of the necklace sometime later - my jewelry collection really needs a post all to itself to do it justice. it may be small, but it is POWERFUL.

{outfit} silence seizes a cluttered room

coclico shoes. true religion jeans. illamasqua polish.

hand-me-down sweater. rubbish shirt. hand-me-down skirt. free people stockings. farylrobin wedges. ebay'd goggles.

someday, i will get one of those beautiful $1000+ cameras that makes every picture taken with it look fabulous. SOMEDAY
